VALUE OF THE MANA ŌRITE AGREEMENT
In May 2025, the Data Iwi Leaders Group (Data ILG) commissioned an assessment of the 2019 Mana Ōrite Relationship Agreement with Stats NZ. The work was conducted by Carl Bakker of Acuo Ltd (The Acuo report).
The Acuo report sets out an estimate of some of the value that has been created through the Mana Ōrite relationship between Stats NZ and the Data ILG over the last five years. This one page summary has been prepared to help support other parties who are interested in understanding the value of entering into a Mana Ōrite relationship.

We explored what it means to hold, protect, and activate our own stories in a world where data is power.
Kirikowhai reminded us: our tīpuna were data keepers — storing mātauranga in carvings, tukutuku, and kōrero tuku iho.
The challenge now is to reclaim our place in this space.
To ensure that Māori data is governed by Māori hands and hearts.
This wasn’t just a kōrero about statistics. It was a call to action.
